Pre-order technical information:
Toughening Stamps
All toughened glass must carry a toughening stamp. Arrised edge glass will have a face stamp positioned approximately 25mm from each corner unless otherwise specified. Polished edge glass (6mm and above) will carry a line logo kite mark on the edge unless stated otherwise. Any alternative stamping requirements must be specified at the order stage.
Laminated Glass
Our bespoke toughened laminated glass is manufactured using an EVA interlayer. EVA provides superior clarity and moisture resistance compared to PVB, offering improved thermal and mechanical stability and reducing the risk of delamination.
Back Painted Glass
For painted glass applications, low iron glass is recommended due to its improved clarity. Standard clear glass contains a natural green tint. Low iron glass will be supplied unless otherwise specified at the time of ordering.
LED Lighting Compatibility
Standard clear glass is not recommended for use with LED lighting. Due to the natural composition of standard clear glass, it contains a higher level of inherent visual imperfections, which may become more noticeable when illuminated. These natural characteristics are beyond our control and do not constitute a manufacturing defect.
For applications involving LED lighting, low iron glass is typically recommended, as it offers superior clarity and reduced natural imperfections compared to standard clear glass. However, we strongly advise against illuminating glass in any case. LED lighting can highlight minor visual characteristics and imperfections that would not normally be visible during production or once installed under standard, non-illuminated conditions.
Customers must inform us prior to ordering if glass is intended to be used in conjunction with LED lighting.
Polished Edges
Glass is polished using either straight-line edgers or CNC machinery. Shaped items are typically polished on CNC machines. Alternative edge finishes, such as bullnose edges, are available upon request and must be specified at order stage.
Cut Outs
Internal radius requirements depend on the edge finish selected. Arrised cut-outs require a minimum internal radius of 7mm, while polished cut-outs require a minimum internal radius of 14mm. The required finish must be confirmed at the time of ordering.
Drill Holes
Hole positioning is critical to the toughening process. The following minimum guidelines apply:
- The distance from the edge of the glass to the edge of a hole must be at least 1.5 times the glass thickness.
- Holes positioned in corners must be at least 4 times the glass thickness from one edge and 1.5 times from the adjacent edge.
- The minimum hole diameter must be equal to the glass thickness.
Corners
Polished edge glass will have sharp corners as standard. Dubbing or radius corners can be applied upon request. Radius corners are CNC processed and must be specified at the order stage.
Templates
All supplied templates must be made from hardboard and reflect the exact finished size, including all holes and cut-outs. Where possible, templates will be returned upon delivery.
Drawings
Our in-house CAD team can convert sketches into PDF or DXF production files where possible. We can also accept customer-supplied CAD files in DWG or DXF format.
Tolerances
We manufacture glass to a tolerance of ±2mm on overall size, drill hole positions, and cut-out locations.
Deliveries
Deliveries are typically made using our own transport, although some regions may require a specialist fragile goods courier, which may increase lead times. Glass can be supplied on wooden or craneable A-frames upon request. Deliveries are kerbside only unless prior arrangements are made.
Storage & Handling
Glass should not be stored outdoors or exposed to the elements prior to installation. Prolonged exposure may cause shrink wrap to collect dirt, leading to surface marking or irreversible damage.
